Texanische Lehrerin kriminalisiert Linux

Texas ist ja das Bayern der USA (oder war es umgekehrt?), vielleicht ist das schon Erklärung genug für die Aktion einer Lehrerin aus Austin, die beobachtet hatte, wie einer ihrer Schüler seinen Mitschülern auf seinem Laptop die Linux-Distribution HeliOS vorführte und Live-CDs davon verteilte. Sie nahm den Schülern die CDs weg und schrieb einen wütenden Brief an den Entwickler der Linux-Distri (die Microsoft-Presseabteilung hätte es nicht besser formulieren können):

After confiscating the disks I called a confrence with the student and that is how I came to discover you and your organization. Mr. Starks, I am sure you strongly believe in what you are doing but I cannot either support your efforts or allow them to happen in my classroom. At this point, I am not sure what you are doing is legal. No software is free and spreading that misconception is harmful. These children look up to adults for guidance and discipline. I will research this as time allows and I want to assure you, if you are doing anything illegal, I will pursue charges as the law allows. Mr. Starks, I along with many others tried Linux during college and I assure you, the claims you make are grossly over-stated and hinge on falsehoods. I admire your attempts in getting computers in the hands of disadvantaged people but putting linux on these machines is holding our kids back.

This is a world where Windows runs on virtually every computer and putting on a carnival show for an operating system is not helping these children at all. I am sure if you contacted Microsoft, they would be more than happy to supply you with copies of an older verison of Windows and that way, your computers would actually be of service to those receiving them

Zusammenfassung: Linux ist böse und vermutlich sogar illegal und was nichts kostet, taugt auch nichts. Windows hingegen läuft (definiere „laufen“) auf nahezu jedem Computer und deshalb sollten sich die Kinder damit beschäftigen und nicht mit Linux.

Da fehlen einem doch die Worte, oder? Allerdings nicht dem angeschriebenen Ken Starks, der hat bereits geantwortet und wird sich sogar mit der Lehrerin treffen:

I am anxious to meet a person who is this uninformed and still holds a position of authority and learnedness over our children.

Da wäre ich auch gespannt, was das für eine ist.

Darüber lacht der Twitterer… Vol. IV

…oder sollte man lieber darüber weinen, was das US-Militär in einer Studie herausgefunden haben will:

„Twitter hat sich zum Tool für Sozialisten, Menschenrechtsgruppen, Kommunisten, Vegetarier, Anarchisten, religiöse Gemeinschaften, politische Enthusiasten, ‚Hacktivisten‘ und andere entwickelt, um sich auszutauschen und ihre Messages an ein breiteres Publikum zu bringen“

Eine kurze Stichprobe in meinem Twittermikrokosmos läßt mich an meinen Zweifeln zu der Studie zweifeln, denn eine Twitterista, die sich @elsbomb nennt („Bomb“ = „Bombe“ = „Terror“ = „Ohgottogott“ = „religiöse Gemeinschaften“ = @dasistdasende!), erwähnte gestern erst den Begriff „Tofu„. Ich hätte nicht gedacht, dass es schon sooo schlimm ist.
